The Solomon Project: NEWS

Fresh hope for community cohesion

Fresh hope for community cohesion

Tribal conflict has always been a significant aspect of life on the streets of Eldoret. It is deep rooted and is seemingly implicit in the culture. However, a number of the head teachers believe that the integration of children from many different tribes in the school environment is helping encourage tribal harmony. Since the introduction of the Solomon Project's school feeding project, the children are now staying at school to eat together. Before the feeding programme began in 2010, children would often return home to their homes and would not always return. The Solomon project's feeding in schools has introduced a new culture of eating and then playing together. Watching the children playing football and doing projects together is a wonderful sight to see. The head teachers are confident that such interaction will have a positive impact on the tribal relationships in the future.

This is an unforeseen benefit to the feeding programme which is in itself having a positive impact on the daily lives of thousands of children.
